Sherman S. Pefley, 94, went to be with the Lord at 9:10 a.m. Sunday in Marion.
He was born in Dora. He was a 1928 graduate of Lagro High School. He also graduated from Marion Business College. Mr. Pefley worked for Paranite Wire and Cable/Essex in the payroll department. He was a member of South Marion Friends Church. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing and playing the game of Carrom. He married Leota M. Lewis on Aug. 18, 1935. She preceded him in death July 31, 2001. Survivors include children, Gariselda E. (B.J.) Peterson, Marion, and Stanley J. (Mary Ellen) Pefley, Lawton, Mich.; four grandchildren, Lisa Sundman, Tom Pefley, Eileen LeMaster and Curt Cummings; and nine great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his parents, Albert D. and Sarah (Peeples) Pefley; and siblings, Lowell L., Homer H. and Myra Pefley. A celebration of life is at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Gas City Chapel, 200 North Seventh St., Gas City, with the Rev. David Freelan officiating. Burial is in Center Grove Cemetery, Lincolnville. Visitation is from 11 a.m. until services Wednesday at the funeral home.
