Senior Airman (E-4 SrA) Sara Pefley

Senior Airman Sara Pefley is a Quality Assurance Services Specialist in the 182d Services Flight. She holds the position of Lead Quality Assurance Evaluator. In this position, her duties include being responsible for supervising and coordinating the work of civilian employees. She also makes sure that everything in front of the line is going smoothly, and there are enough supplies for everyone consuming food in the dining facility. She was given this supervisory position because of her level of responsibility and knowledge about the Services unit. She joined the Air Guard at the 126th Refueling Wing in Chicago in 1995. After the Chicago unit closed, SrA Pefley headed south and joined the 182d Airlift Wing.

As a member of the Peoria Air Guard, SrA Sara Pefley has assisted in practice operations in Florida, Utah, and Denmark. During these practice exercises, she worked in the kitchen preparing food and helped set up tents; additionally at Florida she served food in a wartime simulated situation. She also participated in Leadership 2000, which was a conference held at McGhee Tyson ANGB for services specialists all around the nation. She was invited to attend by her supervisor at the time. "It was really a great opportunity", Pefley said, "to meet people from all around the country, Active Duty and Guard, in the same field. We learned about how the Services unit should be ran and what to anticipate on upcoming tests and training." She has also performed security duties at Ali Al Salem AFB, Kuwait, where she was in charge of several Third Country Nationals who worked on base. Her position was to make sure no one contaminated the food or infiltrated onto the base.

While not working at the Guard, Pefley is busy at her studies. In 1996, she enrolled at Rainey Harper Community College in Palatine, where she earned an Associates Degree. In January of 1999, she began to pursue her dreams of becoming a teacher and decided to go to Illinois State University, where she earned a Bachelor's of Science in Education with a minor in Psychology. She is currently a substitute teacher in District 54, which includes Schaumburg and Hoffman Estate Schools.

According to TSgt Patrick Armstrong, Pefley displays the Air Force Core Values in everything that she does. She is an outstanding airman and strives for excellence in everything, both in her military life as well as her civilian life. SrA Pefley plans to stay an active member of the Guard after her first 6-year enlistment is up.
