Mrs. Pefley, A Pioneer, Died Friday

Mrs. Mary Hannah Pefley, aged 74 years, died yesterday evening at her home 3212 Main street after an illness of about six months duration. Notwithstanding the best of medical attention and the care of her children and her many friends, the end came last night. She is survived by her husband, George M. Pefley, and four daughters, Mrs. Elmer McElwain of McCune, Kan., Mrs. Hettie Radabaugh of Parsons and Mrs. J. H. Cook and Mrs. A. E. Brane of Altamont, Kan.; and two sons, J. E. Pefley of Long Beach, Calif., and D. H. Pefley of Parsons, also by one brother, C. P. Basseck [sic] of LaFontaine, Kan. Mr. and Mrs. Pefley were among Labette county's oldest residents. They were married in Indiana, June 2, 1870, and the next year came to Kansas in a prairie schooner and settled in Wilson County; nine years later they moved to a farm near Altamont, Kan., and later moved to Parsons, where they have lived for the past 13 years in their home on West Main street. Mrs. Pefley was a typical example of a true Christian gentlewoman and was a life long member of the Church of the Brethren and by her Christian character made many friends who learned to love and revere her. The funeral services will be held, Sunday morning at 10 o'clock at the Church of the Brethren on North Twenty-sixth street, conducted by Rev. John S. Clark and interment will be made in Elston Cemetery near the old home close to Altamont.
