Ruth was born May 28, 1905 in South Bend, Ind. To Edward and Alma (Wykoff) Peffley. She was a graduate of Evanston, (IL) Hospital School of Nursing; she received her BS from Univ. of Oregon in 1948 and Masters in Public Health from Univ. of Minn. In 1953, her work experiences include the following: Public Health Nurse Evanston (IL) Health Dept. 1928-32; US Indian Service, Blackfoot Reservation, Browning, MT 1933-34; City-County Health Dept., Great Falls, MT 1936-42; Columbia County, St. Helens, OR 1942-47; Visiting Nurse Assn., Portland, OR 1948-49; Tuberculosis Nursing Consultant Oregon Board of Health, Portland 1949-54; Director of Public Health Nursing 1954; Director Executive Board Oregon Cancer Society; Member Nat., Oregon (president 1958-60) Leagues for Nursing; Portland Visiting Nurse Assn. (member board of directors); American Nurses Assn. American Public Health Assn.; Sigma Theta Tau; Episcopalian Club; Soroptimist (Portland, OR). She was also responsible for the development and certification of home Health Agencies of Oregon under Medicare Act (effective 1966). She worked tirelessly in all counties throughout the state to see that home health services were made available to all Oregonians. Ruth was a successful, well-known breeder of champion Scotish (sic) Terriers and founder of Merimac Kennels in Portland. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Eleanor Peffley of New Carlisle, IN,; cousins, Dean and Ruth Wykoff of Mankato, MN; good friends, Don Snowhook and his sister, Elizabeth Gay Snowhook of Omro, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Roland Eugene Peffley. Private cremation Killingsworth Little Chapel of the Chimes.
