Howard N. Peffley, 79, of 8412 Elmer Hill Road, retired employee for Griffiss Air Force Base, died Monday, Dec. 18, 1989, in Rome Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Peffley was employed at Griffiss for more than 20 years, retiring in 1971.
Born in Harrisburg, Pa., Feb. 28, 1910, he was the son of Oscar and Susan Northamer Peffley. He graduated from William Penn High School, Harrisburg Academy and Lebanon College. Mr. Peffley served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. On Oct. 11, 1947, he married Calista “Kiki” Riley in Port Leyden. She died Jan. 23, 1988. Mr. Peffley has lived in Rome since 1957.
Mr. Peffley was a member of the Elks and the Henry P. Smith Post, American Legion.
Mr. Peffley is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Central New York Association for the Blind.

Funeral service will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home Inc. Thursday at 11 a.m. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Contributions may be made to the Central New York Association for the Blind.
