Dr. Gordon V. Pefley, a Portland chiropractor, died Monday at a local hospital. He was 60.
Dr. Pefley, who lived at 6326 SW 50th Ave., was named “Oregon Chiropractor of the Year” in 1967 and three times was elected president of the National Council of Physiotherapy.
He was chairman of the Oregon Selective service Appeal Board, a former secretary of the Multnomah County Democratic Central Committee, and was active in American Legion activities.
In 1965 Dr. Pefley was chosen as “Oregon Legionnaire of the Year”. He was a member of the First Christian Church which he served as a teacher, deacon and elder.
Dr. Pefley, a World War II infantry veteran, was born in Oklahoma City, but had lived in Portland since early childhood.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma, a son, Gordon Jr., of Livermore, Calif., his mother, Mrs. Carrie E. Pefley, of Portland, and two grandchildren.
Funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Finley's Morning-light Chapel. Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery.
