Ruth Mary Pefley

Ruth Mary Pefley died on Aug. 29, 2007 at a local hospital after a prolonged illness. She was cremated. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7 at the Summers Funeral Homes, Meridian Chapel, 3629 Ustick Rd., Meridian. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m., prior to the service. Her ashes will be buried at Dry Creek Cemetery at a later date. Mom was born Jan. 7, 1921 in Portland, Ore. Her family moved to Boise when she was 16, and she graduated from Boise High School. She met Ed Pefley while working at Murray's Drive-In. They were married in 1942 in Boise, spending their first summer working at the Packer John Lookout near Smith's Ferry. While raising their three daughters, they moved often, living in various locations in Idaho and Arizona, as well as two years in Northern Peru. They returned to Boise in 1958. Mom worked for the State Department of Health and Welfare, retiring after 18 years. Mom loved to knit and was very generous with her talent, making sweaters, baby clothes, blankets, and hats, hats, hats - for family, friends, the preemies at the hospital, nurses, waitresses, and many others. She also loved to dance and enjoyed an active retirement square dancing and round dancing, attending many regional and national dance festivals. She also taught and cued round dance for many years. Mom is survived by her daughters: Virginia Broker; Kathleen (Dale) Cooper, Kooskia, Idaho; Maureen (Dennis) Merrell, Chubbuck, Idaho; grandchildren: Valorie, Shannon, Steven, Michael, Rachael, Sarah; 11 3/4 great grandchildren; brothers Gilbert (Margaret) and Ronald (Marie) Dehlin. She is preceded in death by her parents, Walmar and Mary Dehlin; two brothers, Gerald and Kenneth Dehlin; and her husband Edward Pefley. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Boise affiliate, 4335 Emerald, Boise ID. 83706.
